State of the River Event Series Continues in Glenwood Springs
The free, public event features important local and interstate Colorado River updates and a special guest presentation from Colorado Commissioner Rebecca Mitchell.

Glenwood Springs, Colorado — On Tuesday, May 2, the Colorado River District and partners at the Middle Colorado Watershed Council will host the Middle Colorado State of the River meeting at the Glenwood Springs Community Center. State of the River events offer West Slope residents the opportunity to learn more about their water, seasonal hydrology outlooks, regional water issues impacting their communities, and how the River District is working to protect Colorado’s most precious resource. Several 2023 events will also welcome a special guest.
“We’re excited to welcome Director of the Colorado Water Conservation Board and Colorado Commissioner Becky Mitchell to our Middle Colorado State of the River,” said River District Director of Public Relations, Marielle Cowdin. “As Colorado’s Commissioner to the Upper Colorado River Commission, she’ll provide a valuable state perspective for West Slope water users on the fast-paced interstate and federal updates concerning the greater Colorado River.”
Mitchell will also participate in the State of the River Meetings in Granby and Silverthorne on May 22 and 23, respectively. The Middle Colorado program is the sixth in this spring’s nine State of the River events hosted by the River District. Over 450 people across the West Slope have already attended similar events in Montrose, Moffat, Routt, Mesa, and Rio Blanco counties.
Glenwood Springs attendees on May 2 will be welcomed with a light dinner and networking session starting at 5:30, followed by a robust program covering Colorado River hydrology, wildfire recovery and resilience, local agriculture and soil health, multi-benefit water projects, and funding opportunities.
