Glenwood Springs, Colorado — On Monday, May 22, the Colorado River District and partners at Grand County will host the Grand County State of the River meeting at the Sun Outdoors Rocky Mountain Elk Ridge Ballroom in Granby, CO. State of the River events offer West Slope residents the opportunity to learn more about their water, seasonal hydrology outlooks, regional water issues impacting their communities, and how the River District is working to protect Colorado’s most precious resource. These final 2023 events will also welcome a special guest.
“We’re excited to welcome back Director of the Colorado Water Conservation Board and Colorado River Commissioner Becky Mitchell to our Grand County State of the River,” said River District Director of Public Relations, Marielle Cowdin. “As Colorado’s representative on the Upper Colorado River Commission, she’ll provide a valuable state perspective for West Slope water users on the fast-paced interstate and federal updates concerning the greater Colorado River.”
Commissioner Mitchell will provide the State’s perspective on how the Bureau of Reclamation’s Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Study (SEIS) may impact Colorado water users at the Grand County event and how Coloradoans can provide input. She will also speak at the Summit County meeting in Silverthorne on May 23.
All State of the River events are free and open to the public, but pre-registration is required. The Grand County program is the seventh in this spring’s nine State of the River events hosted by the River District. Over 500 people across the West Slope have already attended similar events in Montrose, Moffat, Routt, Mesa, Rio Blanco, and Garfield counties.
