Every year, the Colorado River District works with its partners to host educational meetings about water issues in each river basin in the 15-county district.
Learn more about the water we all rely on. At these meetings, you can enjoy free food and refreshments and learn more about the water we all rely on. Local experts present on how much water we expect to see in local rivers, ditches and reservoirs as well as up-to-date information about regional, statewide and local water issues.
If you’re interested in water as an irrigator, angler, boater or water provider, be sure to attend an upcoming event! We are actively planning State of the River events now. More details will be released about a State of the River in your area soon.
COLORADO STATE OF THE RIVER

Learn more about current issues on the mainstem of the Colorado River, including challenges facing West Slope water users, drought and the economic value the river provides us at the virtual Colorado State of the River meeting hosted by the Colorado River District. From threats posed by prolonged drought to the increasing pressure on West Slope water as demand from the Front Range increases, this webinar will help you understand challenges impacting your West Slope water.

YAMPA VALLEY STATE OF THE RIVER

Learn about current Yampa Basin water issues, snowpack, the river flows, reservoir inflow forecasting, and the Integrated Water Management Plan from an agricultural, environmental, and recreational perspective. A conversation with Division 6 Engineer Erin Light and Jackie Brown, Water & Natural Resource Policy Advisor, Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association covered many topics including hydrology, measuring device implementation, and the water right abandonment process.

Tom Alvey, head of the projects committee for the Gunnison Basin Roundtable, and Jim Pokrandt, community affairs director for the River District, also had a discussion about hot water topics in the basin including drought, fruit freezes, an update of the roundtable’s water plan for the region, how the new crops of hemp and hops are working and the River District’s Lower Gunnison Project that did not have a PowerPoint presentation.

MESA COUNTY STATE OF THE RIVER

Presentations include forecasts of how much water will be in area rivers and reservoirs later this summer and a report from the Colorado River District. The Colorado Wate Conservation Board will talk about the state’s preparation for renegotiation of the multi-state Interim Guidelines for how Lake Powell and Lake Mead are operated, and the State Engineer’s study of Colorado River Compact curtailment strategies should they ever be needed.

Whether it’s for clean water from your kitchen tap, water for hay and livestock or flows to paddle and play on, we all rely on our rivers. Learn more about current conditions and issues in the Blue and Colorado river watersheds at the Summit State of the River. Please register to tune in for this virtual event.
Presentations will include forecasts of how much water will be in area rivers and reservoirs later this summer, how Summit County fits into forecasted shortages facing the larger Colorado River Basin, an update on Summit County reservoirs, transmountain diversions and information about how you can participate in Blue River planning efforts to assess and sustain this valuable resource and its associated ecosystem.
