Karn Stiegelmeier represents Summit County. She is a fifth generation Colorado native.
Upon graduating from CU Boulder with a degree in Environmental Conservation, Ms. Stiegelmeier took a series of assignments with the National Forest Service and National Park Service including wildland firefighter, wilderness ranger, fire dispatcher, naturalist, and park ranger. In addition, she taught environmental education with Yosemite Institute in California.
Ms. Stiegelmeier completed graduate work at San Francisco State University which lead to teaching many subjects but primarily science, to a range of ages in public and private schools. She also was the director and a science teacher at the Alpine Charter School in Dillon.
In 2009 Ms. Stiegelmeier was elected Summit County Commissioner, a position she continues to hold. She also has served as the director of the Friends of the Lower Blue River, Chair of the Blue River Group of the Sierra Club and board member of the Continental Divide Land Trust.
Ms. Stiegelmeier’s current term expires January 2022.
